Marshfield Junior Legion routs Plover

PLOVER – The Marshfield Post 54 Junior Legion baseball team scored multiple runs in four different innings and went on to blast Plover 9-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League game Tuesday at Memorial Park.

Marshfield scored three times in the second, and added two runs in the third, fourth and seventh innings to run away with the victory and improve to 6-3 overall and in league play.

Riley Boushack and Mason Coffren each had two hits, and Coffren and Jacob Earll both had two RBIs for the Blue Devils.

Tyler Spaeth earned the victory for Marshfield, throwing five shutout innings with two strikeouts. Ryan Zickert and Coffren each pitched an inning to finish off the win.

Marshfield will compete in the Antigo Junior Legion Tournament this weekend. Marshfield plays Antigo on Friday night, East Troy and Gladstone (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon, and Oshkosh North on Sunday afternoon.

Plover hands Marshfield Post 54 Legion baseball first loss of season

PLOVER – Marshfield Post 54 got off to an early lead but could not hold on as it dropped a 9-3 decision to Plover in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League baseball game Wednesday night at Memorial Park.

The loss is Marshfield’s first of the season as the Blue Devils drop to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Marshfield scored twice in the top of the second inning on a two-run single by Hunter Korger, scoring Jared Klein and Jacob Neve, both of whom walked to start the inning.

Plover finally got to Marshfield starter Connor Jasurda in the third. The Black Sox had six singles in the inning, plating three runs, to chase Jasurda with one out. Jared Johnsrud entered and coaxed an inning-ending double play.

Plover added two more runs in the fourth inning and scored four times in the fifth to open up a 9-2 lead.

Derek Baumgartner had two-RBI doubles in both frames for the Black Sox. He finished with three hits and five RBIs in all.

Marshfield scored its final run in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Logan Jakobi.

Marshfield hosts Antigo in a non-league game Thursday at 7 p.m. at Hackman Field.

MARSHFIELD – Ryan Krueger delivered a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive in the winning run and lift the Marshfield Post 54 American Legion varsity baseball team to a 4-3 victory over Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday night at Jack Hackman Field.

The Blue Devils remain undefeated this season, improving to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Legion League.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield Post 54 Junior Legion baseball team had the bats going on Tuesday, combining for 28 hits and 18 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Wisconsin Rapids at Witter Field.

Marshfield won 7-2 and 11-5 to improve to 5-3 overall and in the Wisconsin Valley Legion League.

Will Voss allowed two runs in six innings to earn the victory, and had two RBIs in Game 1.

Devyn Palmer also had a pair of hits and two RBIs, Riley Boushack had three hits and Ben Gust had two hits in the victory.

Caden Schillinger went 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs in the second game for Marshfield. He also earned the victory on the mound, striking out two in four innings.

Hunter Weik and Logan Schreiner each had three hits, and Schreiner drove in three runs for the Blue Devils.

Marshfield plays at Plover on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The varsity teams will play at 7 p.m.

Marshfield Legion sweeps doubleheader from Holmen

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Post 54 American Legion baseball team swept a non-league doubleheader from Holmen on Saturday, winning 4-1 and 9-8 at Jack Hackman Field.

Hunter Korger tossed a complete game in the opener, striking out five and scattering five hits without a walk to earn the victory for Marshfield, which is now 4-0 to start the 2017 season.

Logan Jakobi and Jacob Neve each had two hits for the Blue Devils. Jakobi scored twice and Jared Klein drove in two runs as well.

In Game 2, Marshfield led 9-3 after six innings before Holmen’s bats erupted to make it tight.

Holmen scored five runs before Marshfield’s Jake Brueggen struck out the final batter of the game to earn the save for Neve, who was the winner after throwing six innings.

Brueggen had three hits and scored twice at the plate for Marshfield. Jared Johnsrud scored three times, Klein was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Conner Berry and Korger each drove in a pair for the Blue Devils.

Marshfield hosts Stevens Point at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hackman Field.

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Post 54 Junior Legion baseball team split a pair of games with Plover on Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field.

Marshfield won 7-1 and lost 11-8 in the Wisconsin Valley Legion League doubleheader, its third-straight split of league twinbills to start the 2017 season.

In the opener, Mason Coffren struck out 13 in 5 2/3 innings to earn the victory.

Devyn Palmer had two RBIs and Tyler Spaeth had two hits for the Blue Devils.

In Game 2, Marshfield scored five times in the first inning but couldn’t hold on as Plover went ahead for good with a five-run third and added three in the sixth to put away the win.

Jacob Earll was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored for Marshfield.

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Post 54 American Legion varsity baseball team opened its season with a 3-2 win over D.C. Everest in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League matchup Sunday night at Jack Hackman Field.

The game ended with one out in the top of the sixth inning due to lightning.

Everest scored twice in the first inning before Marshfield starter Jake Brueggen settled in and threw 4 1/3 innings of shutout ball before the game was ended. He finished with seven strikeouts and two alkes to earn the win.

Marshfield finally got to Everest starter John Breske in the fifth, scoring three times to take the lead and knock him out of the game.

Ryan Krueger and Paul Maguire each had RBI hits in the fifth for the Blue Devils.

Marshfield will host Wausau at 7 p.m. Thursday at Hackman Field.

The Blue Devils’ scheduled doubleheader against Osseo on Sunday, June 18, has been canceled. Marshfield will play a make-up game against Stevens Point instead at 3 p.m. at Hackman Field.

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Post 54 American Legion Junior Blue Devils split a pair of games with Stevens Point on Thursday at Jack Hackman Field.
Marshfield lost 11-0 before bouncing back for a 3-2 win to move to 2-2 this season.

Marshfield was held to just three hits in the 11-0 loss as Point ended the game in five innings via the 10-run rule.

Ryan Krueger earned the victory in second game, striking out five and walking just one in six innings for the Junior Devils. He also had two hits and scored a run.

Caden Schilinger added an RBI double for Marshfield (2-2).

Marshfield returns to action Tuesday at home for a doubleheader against Plover. The Marshfield varsity team opens its season at 7 p.m. Sunday at home against D.C. Everest.

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield American Junior Legion baseball team opened its 2017 campaign with a split of a doubleheader against Wausau on Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field.

The Junior Blue Devils beat Wausau 9-5 in the opener before dropping Game 2 by a score of 6-3.

Marshfield trailed 4-1 in Game 1 before exploding for a six-run fifth inning to take the lead.

Ryan Krueger had three hits and two RBIs, Tyler Spaeth also had three hits, and Mason Coffren had a triple drove in a pair of runs for Marshfield.

Ty Pankratz earned the win, getting the final two outs of the fifth. Coffren started, allowing four runs and five walks in 4 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts. Will Voss allowed one run in the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the save.

Marshfield will host Stevens Point for a doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Hackman Field.

The varsity game, which was to be Marshfield’s season-opener, on Thursday at Stevens Point has been postponed due to the Point High School team playing in the WIAA sectionals on Tuesday. No make-up date has been announced.

MARSHFIELD – Tryouts for the 2017 Marshfield Post 54 American Legion baseball teams will be held Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to noon at Jack Hackman Field.

Players should bring cleats, their gloves, and appropriate baseball clothing.
