Marshfield cross country runner Joseph McKee has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com October High School Athlete of the Month.

The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.

Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.

McKee received 660 of the nearly 1,800 votes cast.

Other nominees for the October award were Abbotsford football player Joe Aguilera, Stratford volleyball player Jadyn Dahlke, Edgar cross country runner Marissa Ellenbecker, and Marathon football player Donavon Free.

McKee, a sophomore, qualified for his first state meet with a fifth-place finish at the Division 1 sectional at Winneconne on Oct. 20, running in a time of 16:29.73. McKee ended up 48th in the 189-member Division 1 boys field at the WIAA State Cross Country Championships in Wisconsin Rapids on Oct. 28, finishing in 16:44.64. He also took fifth at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Meet at Standing Rock Park in Stevens Point on Oct. 14 in 16:39.0.

The winner of the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year will be announced Monday, July 10.

Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer player Nadim Torbey has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com September High School Athlete of the Month.

The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.

Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.

Torbey received 790 of the nearly 1,900 votes cast.

Other nominees for the September award were Marshfield volleyball player Corianne Johnson, Pittsville football player Riley Wayerski, Stratford volleyball player Mazie Nagel, and Spencer/Columbus football player Hunter Luepke.

Torbey, a junior midfielder, scored 24 goals and had four assists for Dons, who went 9-1-1 overall and 7-1 in Central Wisconsin Conference in September. Torbey had hat tricks (three goals) in a 3-1 win over Wisconsin Valley Lutheran on Sept. 5, a 6-0 shutout of Tri-County on Sept. 14, and a 6-2 win over Northland Lutheran on Sept. 21. He scored four goals in the first half of 8-0 win over Wausau Newman on Sept. 11.

Torbey is the first athlete to earn the Athlete of the Month award for the second time. He also won the award in October 2016.

The winner of the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year will be announced Monday, July 10.

Marshfield Columbus Catholic High School senior Tyler Fuerlinger has been named the 2016-17 WDLB-WOSQ Radio and MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year.

Fuerlinger was chosen by WDLB-WOSQ Radio and MarshfieldAreaSports.com staff for the award, which is also sponsored by Burt Trophy & Awards, Marshfield Clinic and Cost Cutters Family Hair Care of Marshfield.

Varsity athletes from the following high schools were eligible for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.

Fuerlinger was an all-conference first-team choice in three sports, helping Columbus Catholic to the Mid-State Soccer Conference during the boys soccer season and the Cloverbelt Conference East Division title in boys basketball while earning Player of the Year honors in both sports.

Fuerlinger was named the Mid-State Soccer Conference Player of the Year and was a unanimous first-team selection as he helped the Dons to a 20-3 record, a spot in the WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinals, and a perfect 12-0 mark in conference play.

Fuerlinger had 19 goals and two assists for the Dons and was named as an honorable mention all-state player by the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association.

When the basketball season came around, Fuerlinger excelled for the Dons, helping them reach the WIAA state tournament.

Fuerlinger averaged 22.7 points and grabbed seven rebounds per game for Columbus, earning first-team all-Cloverbelt Conference East Division accolades and the conference Player of the Year award.

Columbus finished the season 25-3 and 15-1 in the Cloverbelt East to capture its second-straight conference title. The Dons reached the WIAA state tournament for the second time in school history, losing 72-52 to Barneveld in the Division 5 semifinals. Fuerlinger had 16 points, six rebounds and four assists in the state tournament game. He also was a Division 5 all-state selection by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association and played in the annual WBCA senior all-star game in June.

Fuerlinger capped off his athletic career for the Dons by earning first-team all-Cloverbelt East honors in baseball as he hit .390 and was 15-for-15 on stolen base attempts as Columbus went 5-13.

The WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Month award will return in September.

Snook received 35 percent of the nearly 400 votes cast.

Other nominees for the June award were Auburndale track athlete Kali Karl, Spencer track athlete Johanna Ellefson, Marshfield boys golfer Derek Michalski, and Edgar track athlete Macey Wirkus.

Snook, a sophomore, earned a pair of medals at the 2017 WIAA State Track and Field Championships in La Crosse on June 2-3. Snook won the Division 3 boys 400 meters in 50.36 seconds to take the gold, and was also fourth in the D-3 boys 100 meters, finishing in 11.62 to grab another state medal. Snook also took seventh in the 200 with a time of 23.14 seconds.

Snook joins Columbus Catholic volleyball player Kendra Baierl (September), Columbus Catholic soccer player Nadim Torbey (October), Abbotsford football player Ethan Kramas (November), Owen-Withee girls basketball player Jennifer Wendler (December), Marshfield boys basketball player Ethan Posteluk (January), Columbus Catholic boys basketball player Tyler Fuerlinger (February), the Stratford wrestling team (March), Pittsville baseball player Jacob Neve (April), and Athens baseball player Seth Coker (May) as winners of the award during the 2016-17 school year.

The winner of the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year will be announced Monday, July 10.

Coker, a sophomore, finished second in the Marawood Conference North Division with a .512 batting average (22-for-43) as the Bluejays tied for the conference title. He led the conference with 10 doubles and also had 10 RBIs as Athens reached the WIAA Division 4 sectionals.

Neve helped the Panthers get off to a hot start this season. Through games on April 30, he was batting .543 (19 of 35) with a home run, 12 runs scored, and 11 RBIs at the plate, and was a perfect 3-0 on the mound with a 0.82 earned run average and 30 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings pitched for Pittsville. The Panthers headed into May 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the Marawood Conference South Division.

The Stratford wrestling team has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com March High School Athlete of the Month.

Stratford wrestling garned 165 of the 360 votes cast.

Other nominees for the March award were the Loyal girls basketball team, winners of the WIAA Division 5 state title, and the Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team that reached the WIAA Division 5 state tournament semifinals.

Stratford won its first-ever state title by rolling past Random Lake 52-13 and Fennimore 49-13 at the WIAA State Team Wrestling Tournament on March 4 at the UW Fieldhouse in Madison. The Tigers won the Division 3 championship by taking 21 of the 28 matches they wrestled at state, including 10 by pin. Senior Mason Kauffman finished off an undefeated season with a pin and a technical fall in the two matches, ending his year with a 34-0 record.

Fuerlinger, a senior guard, earned first-team all-Cloverbelt Conference East Division and Player of the Year honors after helping the Dons to their second-straight conference title (15-1) and a 20-2 regular season. Fuerlinger torched opponents to the tune of 25.6 points per game during February. In seven games, Fuerlinger scored 30 or more three times, including a season-high 32 against Greenwood on Feb. 14.

Posteluk, Marshfield’s top scorer this season, averaged 15.7 points per game in six games during January. He scored 19 points in a win over D.C. Evereest on Jan. 6, and had a pair of games with 18 against Wausau West on Jan. 13 and Stevens Point on Jan. 24. In the six games, Posteluk, a senior guard, made 12 of 24 3-point attempts.

Wendler, a 6-foot-2 sophomore, has been a scoring matching for the Blackhawks. In six games in December, five of them wins, Wendler scored more than 20 points four times, including a career-high 37 points in a win over Greenwood on Dec. 22, and 27 in a 13-point victory over Columbus Catholic on Dec. 9. Wendler is averaging 22.8 points per game overall this season for the Blackhawks, who were 6-2 heading into January.

Wendler joins Columbus Catholic volleyball player Kendra Baierl (September), Columbus Catholic soccer player Nadim Torbey (October), and Abbotsford football player Ethan Kramas (November) as winners of the award during the 2016-17 school year.
