Marshfield’s Shah 30th at WIAA girls golf sectional

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Marshfield senior Roma Shah shot a 104 to tie for 30th place at the WIAA Division 1 girls golf sectional Monday at the Ridges Golf Course.

Onalaska (359) and Eau Claire Memorial (365) were the top two teams and earned berths in next week’s WIAA State Girls Golf Tournament, which will be held Oct. 9-10 at University Ridge Golf Club in Verona.

Lexi Meade of Eau Claire Memorial was meet medalist with a 76. The top three individuals not on the two qualifying teams also move on to the state meet. Brooke Knutson of Westby/Viroqua (81), Molly Larsen of Tomah (83), and Ginny Yahnke of Sparta (84) earned the three individual state berths.

Shah reached the sectional by shooting a 109 at the regional on Sept. 27 at Stevens Point Country Club.

STEVENS POINT – Marshfield senior Roma Shah earned the final of four individual sectional berths by finishing in a tie for 20th at the WIAA Division 1 Girls Golf Regional on Wednesday at Stevens Point Country Club.

The top four teams and top four individuals not on those teams qualified for the Division 1 sectional, which is Monday, Oct. 2, at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

Shah shot a 109 to earn the fourth and final individual berth for the Tigers.

Marshfield just missed out qualifying as a team, shooting a 456, 14 shots behind fourth-place Westby/Viroqua. Onalaska (358), Stevens Point (395) and Tomah (398) also earned team spots in the sectional.

Erin Ericson of Onalaska was the meet medalist, shooting an 82. Ginny Yahnke of Sparta (88), Madison Strangfled of Wisconsin Rapids (100), and Grace Amundson of La Crosse Central/Logan (105) earned the other individual sectional berths.

Morgan Meyer had a 113, Isabelle Jensen and Anna Weis shot 117, and Leia Linzmeier had a 125 to round out the scoring for Marshfield.

The top two teams and top three individuals not on the qualifying teams, move on to the 2017 WIAA State Girls Golf Tournament, which will be held Oct. 9-10 at University Ridge Golf Course in Verona.

MARATHON – Marshfield’s Roma Shah and Isabelle Jensen each earned second-team all-conference honors after finishing in the top 10 in the final standings of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Girls Golf Tournament, which concluded with the seventh leg on Monday at Pine Valley Golf Course.

Shah shot a 50 to finish eighth and Jensen tied teammate Morgan Meyer for 11th with a 55 in the final meet of the tournament. As a result, Shah ended up sixth and Jensen 10th in the final individual standings.

All seven tournaments ended the same, with Stevens Point first, D.C. Everest second, Marshfield third, and Wisconsin Rapids fourth. Point’s Abby Nickel was meet medalist on Monday with a 44 and ended up as the overall individual champion as well.

Marshfield had a score of 222. Anna Weis and Leia Linzmeier rounded out the Tigers’ scoring Monday with 62s.

Marshfield will compete in the WIAA Division 1 regional tournament at Stevens Point Country Club on Wednesday.

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls golf team continued its hot finish to the 2017 season with a season-best score of 211 at the sixth leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Girls Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Marshfield Country Club.

The Tigers exceeded their previous season-best score that was set Monday at Stevens Point by nine shots.

Roma Shah also had a season-best round, shooting a 45 to place second overall for the Tigers. Shah moved into sixth place in the overall individual standings with one meet remaining in the tournament series Monday at Pine Valley Golf Course in Marathon.

Stevens Point wrapped up the conference title with a score of 182. The standings in all six conference meets have been exactly the same, with Point finishing first, D.C. Everest second, Marshfield third and Wisconsin Rapids fourth.

After the completion of the conference tournament, Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 regional at Stevens Point Country Club on Sept. 27. The top four teams and top four individuals not on those teams move on to the Division 1 sectional at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids on Oct. 2.

STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield girls golf team shot a season-best 220 and finished third at the fifth leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament on Monday at Stevens Point Country Club.

Romah Shawn finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with a 49 to lead Marshfield.

Isabelle Jensen added a 56, Anna Weis shot a 57, Morgan Meyer had a 58, and Leia Linzmeier had a 68 for the Tigers.

Abby Nickel and Ally Nickel of Stevens Point tied for meet medalist with 45s. Point won for the fifth-straight time as all five of its golfers finished no worse than a tie for fourth.

The sixth leg of the tournament is Tuesday at Marshfield Country Club.

MARSHFIELD – Roma Shah shot a 50 to tie for sixth place and help the Marshfield girls golf team to a third-place finish at the fourth leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Girls Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Marshfield Country Club.

Stevens Point won the meet with a 183 as its top four golfers all finished in the top five overall. Jessica Barber was meet medalist with a 43. Stevens Point has won all four conference meets thus far.

D.C. Everest was second with a 199, Marshfield third with a 224, and Wisconsin Rapids fourth with a 257.

Anna Weis had a 55, Isabelle Jensen shot a 59, Morgan Meyer had a 60, and Leia Linzmeier had a 71 for the Tigers.

The fifth leg of the tournament is Monday at Stevens Point Country Club.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield girls golf team placed third out of four teams at the third leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament on Tuesday at Ridges Golf Course.

Stevens Point’s Abby Nickel shot a 42 to win medalist honors.

Isabelle Jensen shot a 51 and Roma Shah had a 54 to lead Marshfield, which shot a season-best score of 225. Stevens Point won the team title with a 189.

Anna Weis added a 59, Morgan Meyer had a 61, and Leia Linzmeier had a 64 for the Tigers.

The fourth leg of the tournament is Sept. 12 at Marshfield Country Club.

WAUSAU – The Marshfield girls golf team finished third at the second Wisconsin Valley Conference meet of the season Tuesday at Greenwood Hills Country Club. D.C. Everest was the host team.

Stevens Point finished with a score of 186, D.C. Everest was second with 211, and Marshfield third with a score of 243.

Isabelle Jensen shot a 55, Roma Shah had a 58, Morgan Meyer had a 64, and Leia Linzmeier shot a 66 for Marshfield’s top-four finishers that count toward the team score. Also competing for the Tigers were Jenna Jakobi (67), Jenna Reigel (73) and Anna Weis (74).

The third leg of the conference tournament is Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Wisconsin Rapids.

Marshfield girls golfers finish out of qualifying spots at WIAA Division 1 Sparta regional

SPARTA – The 2016 season came to an end for the two members of the Marshfield girls golf team after competition at the WIAA Division 1 regional tournament on Wednesday at River Run Golf Course.

Marshfield junior Roma Shah shot a 116 to tie for 24th place and freshman Megan Vandehey was 32nd with a 134 out of the 38 girls competing at the regional.

The top four teams and top four individuals not on those teams qualify for the sectional tournament on Monday at Wild Ridge Golf Club in Eau Claire.

Clover Valley Golf League champion Stevens Point won the team title with a score of 355, five shots ahead of Onalaska. Tomah was third (400) and Sparta fourth (425) to also qualify as a team for the sectional.

Mary McDonald of Stevens Point, and Sydney Hubbard and Erin Ericson of Onalaska tied for individual medalist honors with 81s.

Wisconsin Rapids’ Cierra Botcher was seventh with a 91, La Crosse Central/Logan’s Maggie Kendhammer was 11th with a 96, Westby/Viroqua’s Brooke Knutson was 13th with a 99, and Holmen’s Lydia Ryan took 15th with a 101 to grab the four individual qualifying spots for the sectional.

The top two teams and top three individuals not on those teams at the sectional will move on to the WIAA State Girls Golf Tournament at University Ridge Golf Club in Verona on Oct. 10-11.

Clover Valley Golf League season finishes with meet at Pine Valley

MARATHON – The final Clover Valley Golf League meet of the season was held Monday at Pine Valley Golf Course as the teams played in a flight-format.

Flight winners were Mary McDonald of Stevens Point (No. 1), Brook Tuszka of Stevens Point (No. 2), Aly Wedward of Osseo-Fairchild (No. 3), Mallory Buetow of Stevens Point (No. 4) and Kaylee Hintz of Stevens Point (No. 5).

Marshfield had just two golfers this season and didn’t figure in the team championship chase, which was won by Stevens Point. The Panthers won five of the six regular-season meets and finished eight points ahead of second-place Stanley-Boyd.

Marshfield junior Roma Shah ended up with six tournament points, five short of earning honorable mention status.

The Tigers will compete at the WIAA Division 1 regional at Sparta Run Golf Course on Wednesday.
