PLOVER – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Blue Devils moved into the final winner’s bracket game with a 5-2 win over Madison Impact in the second round of the 2014 Class AAA Wisconsin State American Legion Baseball Tournament on Thursday at Memorial Park.

Marshfield (23-10) will play Plover (82-6) in a winner’s bracket game at 7 p.m. Friday. Plover whipped Eau Claire 16-3 on Thursday.

Annual Predictor Mile event set for Aug. 6

MARSHFIELD – The annual Predictor Mile event will be held Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the Marshfield Middle School track.

All ages and abilities are welcome. The event begins at 6 p.m.

The object is to come as close as possible to your predicted time for the mile without the aid of a watch.

A pot luck social will follow at 1136 W. Blodgett St. in Marshfield.

Marshfield Chaparrals end losing streak with win over Everest Merchants

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Chaparrals ended a five-game losing streak, riding the arm of Aaron Schwecke to a 4-1 win over the Everest Merchants in an amateur baseball game Wednesday night at Jack Hackman Field.

Schwecke allowed just one unearned run and four hits in a complete-game effort for the Chaparrals (10-12).

Austin Littmann, Matt Swary and Jordan Buss each had two hits for Marshfield.

The Chaparrals host Abbotsford on Friday night.

PLOVER – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Blue Devils won its opening game at the Class AAA Wisconsin State American Legion Baseball Tournament, beating Oshkosh 4-1 on Wednesday at Memorial Park.

Marshfield (22-10) moves on to a winner’s bracket game at 4 p.m. Thursday against Madison Impact (12-10). Madison beat Waterford 8-3 earlier Wednesday.

Oshkosh falls to 27-3 this season and will play Waterford in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Eau Claire Cavaliers shut down Marshfield Chaparrals

EAU CLAIRE – A pair of Eau Claire pitchers held Marshfield to just four hits and the Chaparrals suffered a 3-1 loss on Tuesday in an amateur baseball game at Carson Park.

James Holub tossed eight strong innings, giving up just four hits and striking out 12, and Grant Peikert pitched a scoreless ninth to give the Cavaliers (22-21) the victory.

Kyle Rogers had two of Marshfield’s four hits and Rayme Strey had an RBI double to account for the Chaparrals’ (9-12) only run.

Eric Pritzl struck out two and walked two in a complete-game effort for Marshfield.

The Chaparrals host the Everest Merchants at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jack Hackman Field.

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Marshfield High School girls soccer player Julia Urban recently competed for Wisconsin at the Region II U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) Showcase.

Teams from 11 states throughout the Midwest were represented at the tournament.

The girls were selected through a tryout/training process that began in July 2013. After training throughout the fall and winter, the Wisconsin team was selected in April.

Urban had a goal for Wisconsin during the tournament as it finished 2-0-2. Wisconsin defeated Illinois 2-1 and Ohio South 2-0, and tied Nebraska 2-2 and Illinois 1-1.

Stevens Point’s Justice Menge also played for the Wisconsin team and had a goal in the tournament.

WHITEWATER – Three Marshfield soccer players participated in the 2014 Wisconsin Masonic All-Star Games on July 26 at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The boys and girls games featured some of the state’s top senior players from the 2013-14 seasons.

Marshfield’s Darian Molter played for the Gold team in the girls game.

Austin Gilbert was a member of the boys Blue team and Matt McCann played for the boys Gold team.

WESTON – The Marshfield Tigers varsity girls basketball summer team won the D.C. Everest Summer League Championship with a last-second 36-34 win over D.C. Everest on July 23.

Ema Fehrenbach put back an offensive rebound for the winning basket as time expired to give Marshfield the win.

Other team members for Marshfield this summer were Ellie Fehrenbach, Lauren Gilbertson, Kailey Hubler-Marti, Ana Jensen, Ellie Kummer, Caitlin Michaelis, McKayla Scheuer and Natalie Zuelke.

Marshfield finished 12-1 this summer, losing only to Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in the opening game of the league. The Tigers defeated Assumption to advance to the championship game.

MARSHFIELD – Sparta Miller scored at least one run in each of the first seven innings to go on to an 11-5 win over the Marshfield Chaparrals in an amateur baseball game Friday night at Jack Hackman Field.

Sparta had single runs in the first, second and third innings, added two in the fourth, one more in the fifth and four in the sixth to take a 10-0 lead and cruise to the win.

Sam Schwanebeck had three hits and scored twice, and Ryan Hiller had two hits and three RBIs for the Chaparrals (9-11).

Marshfield plays at the Eau Claire Cavaliers on Tuesday and hosts the Everest Merchants on Wednesday.

Plover routs Marshfield Chaparrals

PLOVER – A six-run third inning propelled the Plover Pterodactyls to a 12-2 win over the Marshfield Chaparrals in amateur baseball action Tuesday night at Memorial Field.

The game was called after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.

Plover scored a pair of runs in both the first and second innings before exploding for six runs in the third to take a 10-1 lead.

Zac Iverson had two hits and an RBI, and Jordan Buss also drove in a run for the Chaparrals (9-10).

Plover connected for 17 hits, including three each by John Jazz, Nate Fredrickson and Paul Hass. All three each had two RBIs.

Marshfield hosts Sparta on Friday. A doubleheader against Coon Valley scheduled for Saturday was cancelled.
