SPENCER – The Spencer girls basketball team dominated Loyal in the second half, outscoring the Greyhounds 27-16 on its way to a 41-34 Cloverbelt Conference East Division win Friday at Spencer High School.

The Rockets trailed 18-14 at halftime before erupting over the second 16 minutes to win for the fifth time in their last six games and improve to 8-4 overall and 7-3 in the Cloverbelt East.

Krystal Weier scored nine points and Courtney Schulz added eight to lead a balanced attack for the Rockets. Spencer struggled shooting, making just 13 of 45 shots from the field and 15 of 31 from the free-throw line.

However, Spencer’s defense returned the favor, holding the Greyhounds (6-8, 5-5 Cloverbelt East) to just 12 of 50 shooting. Loyal couldn’t make up any ground on the free-throw line either, making only 8 of 20.

Spencer plays a pair of road games next week – at Edgar in a nonconference affair on Monday, and at Augusta in a Cloverbelt East game on Thursday.
