Spencer girls basketball team beats Gilman for eighth win in a row

GILMAN – Courtney Schulz and Krystal Weier each scored 12 points to lead the Spencer girls basketball team to its eighth-straight victory Friday night as the Rockets beat Gilman 45-27 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game at Gilman High School.

The late-season surge has pushed Spencer’s record to 17-3 overall and 12-3 in the Cloverbelt East. Gilman falls to 0-18 and 0-15 in conference.

Spencer held Gilman to single digits in each quarter. The Rockets led 26-13 at halftime and maintained its double-digit lead in the second half.

Kyleigh Hebert added 10 points for Spencer, which had eight different players score in the victory.

The Rockets host Greenwood on Monday in their Cloverbelt East finale. If they win, they will play in a Cloverbelt Crossover second-place game on Friday, March 5, against Osseo-Fairchild or Altoona at Osseo-Fairchild High School.

The WIAA playoff brackets will be announced Sunday and the playoffs begin on March 8.
