Neillsville sends Spencer boys basketball team to fourth straight loss

NEILLSVILLE – Neillsville sent the Spencer boys basketball team to its fourth straight loss Friday night, beating the Rockets 39-35 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchup at Neillsville High School.

The Rockets fell behind 9-3 after the first quarter and trailed 30-22 heading into the fourth quarter before closing the gap, but came up four points short.

Spencer, which has lost six of its last eight games, finishes the regular season at 9-13 overall and 8-10 in the Cloverbelt East. Neillsville improves to 10-12 and 9-9 in the conference.

Steven Gilboy continued his solid play during the second half of the season for the Rockets. He scored 18 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

Tyler Ehlen led Neillsville with 13 points and Nick Thoma added six points and 16 rebounds.

Spencer opens WIAA Division 5 playoff action Tuesday in a regional quarterfinal at Greenwood.
