Alyssa Brenner hits five 3-pointers to lead Marshfield girls basketball past Wisconsin Rapids

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield girls basketball team took one step closer to an undefeated Wisconsin Valley Conference season on Thursday, beating Wisconsin Rapids 60-43 on the road at Lincoln High School.

Marshfield used a 16-6 first quarter to pull ahead, then maintained the lead throughout by outscoring the Raiders in each quarter.

Alyssa Brenner had the hot hand for the Tigers, scoring a game-high 19 points. She hit 6 of 8 shots from the field including 5 of 6 from 3-point range.

Taylor Varsho added 15 points despite a poor shooting night (6 of 20) for Marshfield (18-3, 11-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference). She now stands 19 points shy of breaking Jamie Braun’s single-season team scoring record of 465 points. Varsho also had nine assists and didn’t commit a turnover.

Hailee Frank led Wisconsin Rapids (10-11, 7-5 WVC) with 16 points.

Marshfield wraps up its regular season next Thursday at Merrill. The WIAA playoff brackets will be released Sunday, with the Tigers looking at a probable No. 1 seed in their regional.
