The WIAA announced the playoff brackets Sunday for the girls basketball tournament, which begins March 8.

This year, the WIAA has introduced a five-bracket system for the basketball playoffs. The biggest difference is in the Division 1 bracket, where some teams will now have to play five games to qualify for the state tournament.

Instead of the normal two games in regionals and two games in sectionals, the Division 1 bracket will include a “Super Tuesday” game pitting sectional winners.

In all five divisions, four teams will advance to the WIAA State Boys Basketball Tournament on March 24-26 at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Locally, Marshfield (18-3) is the No. 1 seed in its Division 1 regional. If the Tigers keep winning, they will host three straight playoff games before a potential Super Tuesday match at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on March 22.

Marshfield will host the winner of the Hudson-D.C. Everest game in a regional final on Saturday, March 12. A game time has not been announced. Marshfield hosts the sectional semifinals on March 17 and the sectional final on March 19. If it wins the regional final, the Tigers will play the winner of the Eau Claire Memorial-Superior game on March 17 at 6 p.m.

In Division 4, Auburndale (18-3) is the No. 2 seed in its regional and received a first-round bye. The Apaches will host the winner of the Stevens Point Pacelli-Wild Rose game on Friday, March 11, at 7 p.m. The winner of that game moves on to a regional final on March 12 at Wisconsin Rapids.

Stratford is in the top half of the sectional bracket and is a No. 4 seed. The Tigers (9-12) host No. 5 Three Lakes (10-11) on Tuesday, March 8, at 7 p.m. The winner plays at No. 1 seed Marathon (14-6) on March 11.

The regional final is at Antigo on March 12, with the sectional semifinals at Wausau East on March 17 and the sectional final at Waupaca on March 19.

In Division 5, Spencer (17-3) is the No. 2 seed in its regional and also earned a first-round bye. The Rockets will host the winner of the Greenwood-Rib Lake game in a regional semifinal on March 11 at 7 p.m.

In the same regional, Marshfield Columbus Catholic (5-13) is the No. 5 seed and will play a regional quarterfinal at No. 4 Loyal (7-12) on Tuesday, March 8. The Dons host Loyal in their Cloverbelt Conference East Division finale on Monday. The winner of the regional quarterfinal plays at No. 1 seed Prentice in a regional semifinal on March 11.

The regional final is at Marathon, with the sectional semifinal at Abbotsford on March 17 and the sectional final at Spooner on March 19.
