Spencer girls basketball team whips Greenwood, wraps up second place in Cloverbelt East

SPENCER – The Spencer girls basketball team locked up second-place in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division, and a berth in the Cloverbelt Crossover second-place game Saturday at Osseo-Fairchild with a dominating 47-28 win over Greenwood on Monday at Spencer High School.

The Rockets won for the ninth straight time to improve to 18-3 overall and wrap up their Cloverbelt East season at 13-3. Spencer will play Altoona in the second-place game at 1 p.m. Saturday. East champion Neillsville and West champ Eau Claire Regis will play in a first-place game that features two undefeated teams at 2:30 p.m.

Krystal Weier led the way for the Rockets, scoring 19 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the field. Courtney Schulz added nine points and five rebounds for Spencer, which shot 56 percent (19 of 34) from the floor.

Spencer outscored the Indians (15-7, 11-5 Cloverbelt East) 33-14 over the middle two quarters to pull away.

Nine different Greenwood players scored in the loss, but no one had more than six points.
