MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic softball team finally got to open its season Monday after a series of early-season postponements. However, it didn’t go well for the Dons.

Colby hammered Columbus 16-4 and 16-6 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division doubleheader at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Columbus managed just two hits in the opener as Colby scored in each of the five innings, including five runs in both the third and fifth.

The Dons used those two hits and 10 walks by Colby pitchers to plate their four runs.

In the second game, McKenna Immerfall and Elizabeth Manlick each had a double and Katrina Hill drove in a pair of runs for the Dons.

Colby (2-2) again scored in all five innings, highlighted by a five-run third inning.

The Dons are scheduled to play at Loyal on Thursday.
