WAUPACA – The Marshfield girls soccer team went 2-1 to finish third at the Waupaca Tournament on Saturday.

The Tigers beat Clintonville 4-0, lost to Sauk Prairie 2-0 and topped Eau Claire Regis 2-0 in the third-place game. Marshfield improves to 10-5 on the season.

A Clintonville player kicked in a corner kick by Marshfield’s Alyssa Brenner to get the Tigers on the board just 2:14 into the first game.

Taylor Asplin added a goal five minutes later, on an assist from Darian Molter, and Molter scored three minutes after that off another corner kick from Brenner.

Marshfield made it 4-0 when Courtney Thumann scored on an assist from Abigail Brock at the 22:01 mark.

Marshfield outshot Clintonville 25-2 in the win, with Kassi Todryk making both saves for the Tigers.

Sauk Prairie outshot Marshfield 13-9 in the second game, but the Tigers couldn’t get any of their shots in for a goal.

“We just seemed a step slow and reacted instead of anticipated in the game,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said.

Naomi Crump had eight saves and freshman Nyssa Goers added four for the Tigers.

In the third place game, Molter scored just 3:54 into the game and Emily Haws added a goal off an assist from Emily Brix just before halftime to provide the Tigers with all the offense they would need to beat Regis.

Todryk had six saves in goal for Marshfield, which outshot Regis 28-7.

“It was a long week with six games in five days and the girls will have a well-deserved day off tomorrow,” Lindner said. “It is tough to stay sharp and play at a high level game in and game out, but the team has for the most part responded well all season.
