MARSHFIELD – D.C. Everest scored in each of the first five innings and took advantage of six Marshfield errors on its way to a 9-3 win over the Tigers in a Wisconsin Valley Conference softball game Monday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Everest scored twice in the first two innings, added another in the third and three in the fourth to open up an 8-2 lead.

Marshfield managed eight hits against Evergreens pitchers Brenna Poeske and Kaitlyn LePine, but could only muster three runs.

Becky Boehning had two hits, including a double, for the Tigers (3-9, 0-8 Wisconsin Valley Conference). Everest improves to 10-2 and 6-2 in the Valley.

“It’s frustrating knowing that they can make the plays, but there are a lot of plays that come up and it’s a learning experience,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said of the Tigers’ errors.

Rhiannon Baierl took the loss for Marshfield, striking out three and walking three.

“Rhiannon pitched one of her better games this year,” Voss said. “She got ahead in the count and wasn’t working from behind, which she has struggled with sometimes this year. She made them swing the bats, unfortunately our defense couldn’t be behind her all of the time.”

Marshfield hosts Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday.
