MARSHFIELD – Marshfield freshman Darian Molter scored four goals and Allison Gruen added a pair to led the Tigers girls soccer team to a dominating 7-4 win over Stevens Point Area Senior High on Tuesday at Griese Park.

The Tigers improve to 11-6 and 7-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, with their regular-season finale scheduled for Thursday at home against Wisconsin Rapids. SPASH wraps up its WVC season with an 8-3-1 record.

Molter scored off an assist from Emily Wolfe just 11:38 into the game and Guren added another score 3:09 later on a corner kick from Alyssa Brenner to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

“Marshfield came out and played with a high amount of energy and intensity as the Tigers controlled the opening 10 minutes,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We have stressed all season how important the corners are and wanted to limit the opponent’s corners and get more corners as a team. We have succeeded on that goal and it has paid greatly for us.”

Stevens Point responded with a goal by Laura Yonke before Molter assisted on Gruen’s second goal at the 24:40 mark to make it 3-1.

SPASH cut the Tigers’ lead to 3-2 when Jen Hoerter scored with 9:13 left in the first half.

Molter scored three goals in a four-minute span from the 47:18 to 51:30 mark to push the Tigers to a commanding 6-2 lead.

Hoerter scored twice in a seven-minute span to get the Panthers within two before Walker Guzowski added the Tigers’ final goal from about 25 yards out to provide the final margin.

“This was a huge win for the Tigers, who defeated SPASH for the first time in the five years I have been associated with the girls program and I am sure there are not too many wins over the Panthers in the history of Tigers’ girls soccer,” Lindner said. “We had some high expectations and knew this would be a much-improved season, but to put our stamp of success on the season we needed to beat one of the heavyweights and with the victory, the Tigers have assured themselves of a winning record in the Valley.”
