Stratford softball outslugs Spencer

SPENCER – Hannah Schmitt and Sam Frombach each went 4-for-5 and Schmitt added a home run and knocked in five runs to lead the Stratford softball team to a 13-8 nonconference win over Spencer on Friday at SPREC Field.

Stratford (18-3) scored three runs in each of the final three innings to pull away from the Rockets (15-4) in the battle of the Marawood South and Cloverbelt East conference champions.

Hilary Belter earned the win for the Tigers, striking out six and walking three. Spencer had 11 hits, three by Jenna Hagen and a pair each by Erika Taylor and Krystal Weier.

Haley Austin added two hits, three runs and three RBIs for Stratford.

Each team now heads into WIAA regional play next Tuesday.

Stratford hosts Marathon in a Division 3 regional semifinal, while Spencer will play at home against Wausau Newman Catholic in a Division 4 regional semifinal.
