Marshfield Chaparrals knock off Plover, 6-1

MARSHFIELD – Four Marshfield Chaparrals pitchers combined to allow just one run and led the team to a 6-1 win over the Plover Pterodactyls in amateur baseball action Wednesday night at Jack Hackman Field.

Lucious Messerschmidt gave up one run in six innings and three relievers followed with shutout innings to lift Marshfield (15-9) to the victory.

Marshfield used a five-run third inning to forge ahead. Cain Trunkel led the Chaps’ offense by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Justin Rayburn had two hits and two RBIs and Dylan McHugh had a pair of singles and two runs scored for Marshfield.

Marshfield hosts Menomonie on Friday in its final home game of the season. The Chaparrals wrap up their 2011 schedule at Plover next Wednesday.
