Marshfield sophomore, freshman football teams defeat Wisconsin Rapids

The Marshfield sophomore and freshman football teams each defeated Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday.

The sophomore team won 23-20 behind running back Keiron Howlett. Howlett ran for 257 yards on 24 carries, scoring on touchdown runs of 91 and 36 yards.

Jeff Allison added a 16-yard touchdown run for Marshfield.

Mitch Ott, Craig Zalizniak, Zach Meissner, and Matt Rickman led the Tigers in tackles. Meissner, Cullen Bump and Craig Serchen each recovered fumbles in the victory.

The Marshfield freshman team rolled to a 32-0 victory.

Derek Coeffren had touchdown runs of 10 and 1 yards, and Caleb Alexander (1 yard), Mitch Zillman (25 yards) and Trevor Heiman (3 yards) added TDs.

Devan Wrege led the Tigers in tackles and Jeff Zinthefer and Gunnar Baasch each had fumble recoveries.
