Auburndale boys finish 14th at WIAA State Cross Country Championships

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Auburndale boys cross country team, making its first state meet appearance since 2005, finished 14th out of 16 teams in the Division 3 team standings on Saturday at the WIAA State Cross Country Championships at Ridges Golf Course.

Darlington won the meet with three finishers in the top nine with 46 points. Grantsburg was second with 74. Auburndale had 322 points, 43 points behind Colfax, which was 13th.

Sophomore Luke Haas led Auburndale finishing 44th in 17:49.72. Senior David Haas was 57th in 18:00.18.

Other finishers for Auburndale were Jacob Hunsberger (122nd, 19:13.31; Tom Sable 123rd, 19:20.45; Lane Schuld 135th, 19:59.36; Aaron Kollross 140th, 20:07.97; and Cody Steines 144th, 20:47.95).

Auburndale’s lone girl entry, freshman Abby Bauer, finished 47th in the Division 3 race in 16:30.34.

Molly Seidel of University Lake School repeated as champion, winning in 13:39.59, 41 seconds ahead of Breanna Colbenson of Spring Valley.

Marshfield Columbus Catholic senior Claire Pinter took 70th in her second straight state appearance. Pinter ran in 16:55.34.

Hartland Arrowhead won the Division 1 team title and Wisconsin Lutheran took the Division 2 championship. Chandler Diffee of Madison La Follette won the Division 1 race, Ryan McCoy of New Glarus/Monticello was first in the Division 2 race, and Tyson Miehe of Darlington won in Division 3.

Other individual winners for the girls were Alexandria Fons of Franklin in Division 1 and Molly Hanson of Dodgeville/Mineral Point in Division 2.

Hartland Arrowhead also won the Division 1 girls team championship. Dodgeville/Mineral Point won in Division 2 and Oshkosh Lourdes took the Division 3 team title.
