Stratford STAR League holds Hoops for Hunger fundraiser during games Sunday

The Stratford STAR Men’s Basketball League held its first Hoops for Hunger fundraiser of the season on Sunday.

Food and clothing were donated by the teams and fans to local charities.

The top donor, Marawood Construction, was awarded $100 and chose to donate it to the food pantry.

A Toys for Tots event will be held Dec. 4 and another food and clothing drive is scheduled for Jan. 15.

In games Sunday night:

* Marawood Construction defeated Smazel’s Hunters Choice 52-48.

*Marshfield (Heinzen) racked up 106 points in a 106-87 win over Kizzy & Sue’s Bar & Grill. Shawn Lee had 26 points and Chris Weiler added 20 for Marshfield. Jay Fuherer led Kizzy’s with 48 points.

*Athens edged After Hours 84-77. Chris Klempke led After Hours with 28 points and Clint Schlinsog added 20.

*L&N Hardwoods defeated Festival Foods 52-44.

*The Shack whipped MOB 72-46 behind 22 points from Kevin Leick.

*US Bancorp Investements outscored Lindsey Bar & Grill 91-81. Chris Newburry had 31 points and Matt Bushman scored 20 for US Bancorp.

*Resource Recovery defeated Rozellville 83-63. Scott Gebelein and Barry Messman each had 20 points for Resource. Jake Kolb had 26 points and Brian Heusi had 21 for Rozellville.
