ANTIGO – Alexis Straughan had her second shutout in net for the Marshfield girls hockey team as it rolled to a 7-0 win over Northern Edge (Antigo-Rhinelander co-op) on Tuesday night.

The Tigers, who lost their last two games, improve to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the Great Northern Conference, while Northern Edge falls to 0-3 overall and in the conference.

“It was a good team effort and Nicole Karl stepped up big in the forward role, she had a real nice game,” Marshfield coach Nate Sparbel said. “Also, Paige Johnson was solid again at defense and freshman Alexis Straughan had the shut out in the net for her second one of the year.”

Paige Johnson netted a hat trick with three goals and added an assist for the Tigers. Nicole Karl scored twice and had two assists, and Charlotte Tierney and Emily Wolfe scored Marshfield’s other two goals. Tori Esser, Wolfe and Morgan Larson had assists.

Straughan needed to make just eight saves to earn the shutout as the Tigers’ defense was superb.

Northern Edge goalie Sophie Schmidt made 46 saves.
