Antigo scores late goal to stun Marshfield boys hockey in Andrew Thiel Memorial Tournament opener

MARSHFIELD – Antigo’s Connor Langseth scored with 24 seconds remaining in regulation to send the Marshfield boys hockey team to a crushing 2-1 defeat Tuesday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Center to complete the opening day of the three-day Andrew Thiel Memorial Tournament.

Each team scored in a 3-minute stretch of the first period and the game remained tied until Langseth scored on a power play off assists from Bailey Olson and Nate Howard.

Blake Kirsch scored at the 8:22 mark of the first period before Marshfield answered 2:57 later. Zach Leggon scored on assists from Zac Alboreo and Bo Howqard to knot the game at 1-1.

Mac Alboreo had 27 saves for the Tigers, who fall to 4-5 on the season. Antigo improves to 3-5 thanks in part to 41 saves from Ryan Schmidt.

The tournament continues Wednesday with Eau Claire Regis/Chippewa Falls McDonell playing Oshkosh at noon. Antigo takes on Fox Cities Stars at 2:30 p.m., with Marshfield and Altoona to follow at 5 p.m.

The tournament concludes Thursday with three games – Antigo vs. Oshkosh at 10 a.m., Altoona vs. Fox Cities at 12:30 p.m. and Marshfield vs. Regis/McDonell at 3 p.m.
