CASHTON – Krystal Weier scored 24 points and had nine steals to lead the Spencer girls basketball team to its fifth straight win as it beat Cashton 52-30 in a nonconference game Thursday night at Cashton High School.

Weier stepped up big as the Rockets played without post players Courtney Schulz and Tara Matter, who are both out with injuries. Weier hit 9 of 15 shots from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range, and was 3-for-3 from the free throw line as well.

Aubrie Bissonette and Kyleigh Hebert each added 10 points for the Rockets, who improve to 5-1.

“Krystal played her best game of the season,” Spencer coach Dan Brodziski said. “She had been struggling and she played the way she’s capable of playing.

“Aubrie and Kailyn Anderson (six points, four rebounds) also really played a big part in our success today. Kaillyn has been a big boost coming off the bench.”

Spencer trailed 14-13 after the first quarter, but rallied by outscoring the Eagles 29-10 over the middle two quarters to lead 42-24 after three.

Spencer hosts Chequamegon in another nonconference game on Tuesday.
