Marshfield JV boys basketball team storms back to beat Wausau East

WAUSAU – The Marshfield JV boys basketball team battled back from a 20-4 deficit in the second quarter to force overtime and eventually defeat Wausau East 51-46 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Friday night at Wausau East High School.

The Lumberjacks led 16-2 after the first quarter and made it 20-4 early in the second quarter. East led 27-14 at the half before Marshfield broke through.

The Tigers outscored East 14-4 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to three and forced overtime at 44-44 after a 3-pointer by Craig Serchen with 2 seconds left in the regulation.

Jeff Allison scored all seven points in overtime for Marshfield. He finished with a team-high 17 points.

Marshfield finished 20 of 29 from the free throw line, while East was just 1 of 4.

Marshfield improves to 6-4 overall and 2-3 in the WVC after its fifth straight victory.

The Tigers host Holmen on Monday with the JV game at 5:45 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m.
