Stratford wrestlers knock off Amherst in nonconference dual

AMHERST – Stratford won the final three matches to eke out a 42-28 nonconference wrestling dual meet win over Amherst on Tuesday night at Amherst High School.

Trailing 28-27, Stratford’s Matt Krall won by forfeit at 126 pounds, Phil Sersch pinned Nate Werner in 3:01 at 132 and Steve Marquardt beat Josh Powers 9-7 in overtime at 138 to lift the Tigers to the victory.

Dondrick Tackes also had a pin for Stratford, which also benefitted from three other forfeit victories.

Stratford is off until the WIAA Division 3 regional tournament at Athens on Feb. 11.
