Marshfield, Auburndale get first-round byes in WIAA girls basketball playoffs

The Marshfield and Auburndale girls basketball teams earned first-round byes for the upcoming WIAA girls basketball playoffs.

The statewide brackets were released Sunday.

Marshfield (16-5) earned a No. 2 seed in Sectional 1 of the Division 1 brackets and with it, a first-round bye. The Tigers will host the winner of the Hudson (4-15)-Eau Clarie Memorial (11-9) quarterfinal on Friday, March 9, in a regional semifinal at Marshfield High School. With a win, Marshfield would host a regional final on Saturday, March 10 against the winner of Wausau West (10-11) and Superior (13-6).

Auburndale (14-7) is the No. 3 seed in its half of the Division 4 Sectional 2 bracket and will host the winner of the No. 11 Tri-County (3-16)-No. 6 Stratford (11-10) quarterfinal in a regional semifinal on March 9.

Stratford hosts Tri-County in a regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, March 6.

Spencer (15-6) is the No. 5 seed in the Division 4 Sectional 1 bracket and hosts No. 12 Cadott (3-18) in a regional quarterfinal on March 6. The winner will play at No. 4 Colby (14-7) in a regional semifinal March 9.

Marshfield Columbus Catholic (6-14) will compete in the Division 5 Sectional 1 bracket. The Dons were given a No. 10 seed and will play a regional quarterfinal at No. 7 Cornell (8-10) on March 6.
