SHEBOYGAN – Darian Molter scored four times to lead the Marshfield girls soccer team to a 6-0 smashing of Sheboygan Christian in the consolation championship of the Sheboygan South Invitational on Saturday.

The Tigers finished the day 2-0-1, improving to 5-2-1 on the season.

Marshfield tied West Allis Hale 2-2 and defeated West De Pere 2-0 in its other two games.

Molter scored at the 12:27 mark off an assist from Abby Brock to give Marshfield an early lead against Hale.

Hale responded with a pair of goals in the first half and held the 2-1 lead until Emily Wolfe scored for the Tigers with just 20 seconds remaining to force a shootout. The game is recorded as a tie for teams’ records, but a shootout was held for tournament standings purposes.

Hale won the shootout 4-3.

Alison Gruen scored both Marshfield goals in the 2-0 win over West De Pere. Molter assisted on both.

The Tigers held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks and goalkeepers Jala Zahn and RaeAnn Hovendick registered one save each in the shutout.

Molter scored four goals in the first 12:17 of the win over an undermanned Sheboygan Christian team to put the Tigers in control.

Maddie Smith and Mardie Shanahan each had a goal and an assist, and walker Guzowski had two assists for the Tigers.

“Overall it was a great tournament for the girls,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “They played well and to play at a high level in the current stretch of our schedule is crucial. Our confidence is very high and the trust they all have in each other only enhances their ability to play as a team.”

The Tigers (2-2 WVC) return to Wisconsin Valley Conference action with a home game at Griese Park on Thursday against Stevens Point, which is a perfect 4-0 in the WVC. Game time is 5 p.m.
