Marshfield baseball splits two against Menomonie

MARSHFIELD – Tanner Dennis-Brown picked up his second win in a week, throwing six strong innings in leading the Marshfield baseball team to an 8-3 win over Menomonie in the first game of a nonconference doubleheader Saturday at Jack Hackman Field.

Brown struck out four to pace the Tigers to the win in the opening game. Menomonie responded with a 9-8 win in Game 2.

Austin Littmann, Daulton Varsho, Jeren Hiller and Seth Karl each had two hits in the first game. Karl added a pair of RBIs.

The Mustangs (5-10) scored seven runs in the top of the first inning of Game 2 and held off a late comeback by Marshfield (9-5) to earn the victory.

Varsho went 2-for-3 with a pair of triples and two RBIs for the Tigers in the second game. Cole Irish added a pair of singles.

Marshfield cut the lead to 9-8 after five innings and had runners on second and third in the sixth, and first and second in the seventh, but couldn’t muster any more runs.

Marshfield, which is 4-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, plays at first-place Stevens Point (11-1, 5-0 WVC) on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Bukolt Park.
