WAUSAU – Marshfield scored four goals in a span of just under 12 minutes of the second half to defeat Wausau West 4-2 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference girls soccer game Thursday at West High School.

Wausau West led 2-0 at halftime before the Tigers finally got things rolling – and they never let up.

Darian Molter scored 5:10 into the second half off an assist from Emily Wolfe to start Marshfield’s onslaught.

Maddie Smith assisted Molter on another goal at the 49:26 mark and 1:11 later Molter completed a hat trick with a goal from an assist by Emily Haws.

Alison Gruen finished the scoring for the Tigers, finding the net on an assist from Molter at 51:49.

“It was so unlike us in the entire first half that the mood at halftime was a little somber,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “The determination and extreme hard work was something we have seen in spurts, but the flurry unleashed in a matter of 6 minutes and 39 seconds was incredible.

“I cannot say enough of their comeback and play after a tough first half. The entire team picked it up so much and they were just not going to go down without a fight.”

Jala Zahn had four saves in goal for Marshfield (7-4-1, 3-4 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

West falls to 4-7-1 and 1-5-1 in WVC action.

The Tigers play at Wausau East on Tuesday.
