MARSHFIELD – Brianna LaMonica went 5-for-5 and Kaylin Byer was 4-for-4 to lead the Merrill softball team to a 13-4 win over Marshfield on Friday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Byer scored four times and LaMonica had two runs scored and two RBIs to provide the Bluejays with nearly half of their runs scored. They combined for nine of Merrill’s 14 hits.

“Their top two batters in the order were 9-for-9 and we just couldn’t keep up with that,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “They played pretty good defense. We just couldn’t get the big hits when we needed them again.”

Sara Sturomski was 2-for-3 and Caitlin Kozik had an RBI double for the Tigers, who fall to 2-9 and 1-6 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Merrill improves to 6-4 and 3-4 in the Valley.

Marshfield hosts Wausau East on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
