Marshfield baseball outslugs Merrill, takes over first place in Wisconsin Valley Conference

MERRILL – The Marshfield baseball team notched another come-from-behind victory, outlasting Merrill 11-7 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Friday at Merrill.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 11-5 overall and 6-1 in the WVC. Marshfield pulls one-half game ahead of idle Stevens Point (11-2, 5-1 WVC) in the conference standings.

Merrill falls to 7-8 and 1-6 in the Valley.

Marshfield trailed 5-0 after two innings before exploding for six runs in the third and three in fourth to take the lead.

Daulton Varsho smacked a home run in the fifth and starting pitcher Bo Howard settled down after the first two innings to earn the victory for the Tigers.

Austin Littmann, Elliot Ashbeck and Seth Karl each had two hits for Marshfield. Howard added a two-run double.

Marshfield plays at Wausau East on Tuesday.
