WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Marshfield smacked 16 hits and rode the arm of junior Bo Howard as it downed Wisconsin Rapids 11-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball game Tuesday.

Howard tossed a five-inning two-hitter, striking out six and walking three, to improve his record to 6-1 this season and help the Tigers (13-7, 8-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) keep pace with Stevens Point in the conference standings. Howard also went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs at the plate for Marshfield.

“I’m really happy with our approach at the plate today,” Marshfield coach Mark Zee said. “We were patient and were swinging at strikes. It really paid off for us.”

Nick Treankler also went 3-for-4 and Austin Littmann, Daulton Varsho, Luke Wirtz and Seth Karl each added two hits for the Tigers.

Marshfield plays at D.C. Everest on Thursday and wraps up the regular season with five home games in seven days, starting the games against Appleton West on Friday and Holmen and Janesville Parker on Saturday in the annual Marshfield Invitational.
