EAU CLAIRE – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic No. 1 doubles team of Lucas Michalik and Finn O’Neill lost its first match and was eliminated from postseason competition on Wednesday at the WIAA Division 2 boys tennis sectional at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Michalik and O’Neill lost to eventual sectional champions Dylan Weyers and Jordan Lehman of Baldwin-Woodville in their first match to end the season with a 9-7 record. The Dons’ duo was the only entry for Columbus Catholic in the sectional.

Stevens Point Pacelli had three individual champions and two second-place finishes to win the team title by just two points over Eau Claire Regis. La Crosse Aquinas was third.

Pacelli advances to the WIAA State Boys Tennis Team Tournament in Madison on June 8-9.

The top four at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, and the winners at No. 2 singles and doubles qualify for the WIAA State Boys Tennis Individual Tournament on May 31-June 2 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.

Eight extra qualifiers at No. 1 singles and doubles will be added to the field and likely will be announced Thursday.
