Marshfield Chaparrals return to action with narrow win over Eau Claire Cavaliers

MARSHFIELD – After a two-week layoff, the Marshfield Chaparrals baseball team returned to action Wednesday and held off the Eau Claire Cavaliers 8-7 at Jack Hackman Field.

Marshfield led 7-3 after three innings, posting three runs in both the second and third innings. Eau Claire chipped away and scored twice in the ninth but couldn’t get the tying run across against Jake Long, who earned the save with four innings of relief.

Brad Stroik struck out three and gave up five runs in the five innings to grab the victory for the Chaparrals, who improve to 13-5 on the season.

Kyle McHugh had three hits and two RBIs, Dylan McHugh had a pair of hits and scored twice, and John Safford and Josh Barnes each knocked in a run for the Chaparrals.

Marshfield has another week off before hosting Plover on July 18.
