Chaparrals top Menomonie with two late runs to win sixth straight

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Chaparrals scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to edge Menomonie 4-3 in amateur baseball action Friday night at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield.

The Chaparrals improve to 15-5 after winning their sixth game in a row.

Jake Long earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief. Starter Brad Stroik held the Eagles scoreless until allowing three runs in the sixth inning as Menomonie took a 3-2 lead. He finished with eight strikeouts.

Josh Barnes had two of Marshfield’s five hits, including a double and an RBI, and he scored once. Chuck Brehm and Eric Pritzl also drove in runs for the Chaparrals.

Marshfield returns to action Wednesday at Plover. The Chaparrals have only one home game remaining – the final game of the season on Aug. 3 against Taylor County.
