Marshfield Chaparrals win seventh straight, take down Plover in extra innings

PLOVER – The Marshfield Chaparrals baseball team extended its winning streak to seven games with an 8-7 victory over the Plover Pterodactyls in 10 innings Wednesday night at Memorial Field.

The Chaps used a six-run fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead, but saw Plover rally and tie the game with a run in the bottom of the ninth.

Marshfield quickly regained the lead with a run in the top of the 10th inning as Sam Arnott reached base and stole second, third and home. Gunnar Smith shut the door in the bottom of the frame to protect his victory.

John Safford had a single, a double and three RBIs, Dylan McHugh added two hits and Chuck Brehm had a double, an RBI and scored twice for Marshfield.

Marshfield (16-5) plays at Waupaca on Friday.
