Marshfield volleyball finishes 4-1 on first day of Sun Prairie Invitational

SUN PRAIRIE – The Marshfield volleyball team won four of its five matches during the first day of play at the Sun Prairie Invitational on Friday.

The Tigers beat Manitowoc 15-25, 25-22, 15-13; Beaver Dam 25-15, 25-19; and La Crosse Logan 25-8, 25-12; before dropping a 23-25, 28-26, 15-11 decision to Sun Prairie. Marshfield closed out pool play with a 25-12, 25-15 sweep of Fond du Lac.

Tiffany Stargardt piled up 38 kills, with Miranda Forrest and Chelsea Akin each added 20 for Marshfield.

Tori Nanstad had 77 assists, Darian Molter topped Marshfield with 63 digs, and Mikala Sebastian had 10 block kills for the Tigers. Courtney Bauer had seven service aces, with Nanstad and Akin each chipping in six.

“We played well today,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “I would have liked to see us win that Sun Prairie match, but we may have an opportunity to see them again (Saturday). Our serving has really improved and we played more and more aggressively as the day went on.”

The tournament concludes Saturday.
