Marshfield sophomore and freshman football teams win at home

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield sophomore and freshman football teams each posted high-scoring victories in action Thursday.

The Marshfield sophomore JV team defeated Wisconsin Rapids 49-24 at Beell Stadium, while the Marshfield freshman team knocked off Stevens Point Ben Franklin 33-26 at Marshfield High School.

In the sophomore game, Caleb Alexander scored six touchdowns for the Tigers – four rushing, one receiving and another on a kick return.

Jack Donahue added a rushing touchdown, made four extra point kicks and booted a field goal.

Ryan Wilsmann, Matt Meyer, Devan Wrege and Nick Humphrey led the Marshfield defense in tackles, and Meyer added an interception.

Nick Hoeheisel led the Marshfield freshmen with 214 yards rushing on 17 carries and scored touchdowns on runs of 55, 35 and 25 yards.

Tyson Slade tossed a pair of touchdown passes for the Tigers – 18 yards to Drew Hanson and 8 yards to Zach Haupt. Zach McManus made three of five extra points.

Cesar Ortega, Craig Lyon, Jon Hardinger and Aaron Peters led the Tigers defense. Lyon recovered a fumble.
