Marshfield girls tennis takes fourth at 2012 Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament

WAUSAU – Marshfield’s top singles player Nadeen Lieberman, and the No. 3 doubles team of Olivia Haessly and Emily Seidel each went 2-1 to finish second on Thursday at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Girls Tennis Tournament at Wausau East and West high schools.

Lieberman, a freshman, beat Kelli Miles of Wausau East 6-2, 6-2, to reach the No. 1 singles finals before losing to Gabbi Kitchell of D.C. Everest. Lieberman ends the regular season with a 17-8 record.

Haessly and Seidel beat teams from D.C. Everest and Wausau East in straight sets before losing 6-4, 6-4, to Zoe Hoche and Juliet Champion from Stevens Point in the championship match.

Marshfield placed fourth out of seven teams in the standings, with Wausau East claiming the Wisconsin Valley Conference title.

Lara Prebble placed third at No. 3 singles for the Tigers, beating Annie DeBroux of Merrill 6-1, 6-2, in the third-place match.

Erin Ott and Jenny Madden took fourth at No. 1 doubles, dropping the third-place match to Michelle Brandt and Kate Peterson of Wausau West in a three-set marathon, 6-4, 6-7 (10), 6-2.

The Tigers will take part in the WIAA Division 1 subsectional on Monday at D.C. Everest. The sectional tournament is Wednesday at Wausau East.
