NEENAH – The Marshfield volleyball team swept three matches in pool play, then dropped a pair and finished fourth at the Neenah Invitational on Saturday at the Neenah Fieldhouse.

The Tigers swept Appleton Xavier 25-19, 25-20, Kaukauna 25-10, 25-18, and Waupun 25-22, 25-17, to advance to the quarterfinals, where they beat Appleton North 25-13, 27-25.

Marshfield ended up fourth, losing its semifinal match to West Bend East 25-23, 25-23, and then fell in the third-place match to Waupun 25-24, 26-24.

“This invite is always very competitive and gives us a great gauge as to where we are in the state since we compete against some of the better teams in Division 1 and Division 2,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “We really improved offensively today; we just seemed to run out of gas against West Bend East.”

Mikala Sebastian had a team-high 42 kills, and Courtney Bauer topped the Tigers with 80 assists and 14 service aces in the six matches.

Darian Molter led Marshfield with 59 digs and added 10 aces, Tiffany Stargardt had 38 kills and 35 digs, and Tori Nanstad added 52 assists.

Marshfield has a nonconference match at Chippewa Falls on Tuesday and returns to Wisconsin Valley Conference play Thursday at Merrill before hosting the second WVC Tournament at the Marshfield Fieldhouse on Saturday.
