MADISON – Spencer/Columbus senior Tye Ackman ran into defending Division 3 state champion Buddy Lincks of Waterloo in a 160-pound quarterfinal match Friday afternoon, and the result wasn’t good for the Rockets senior.

Lincks controlled Ackman throughout the match on his way to a 12-0 win at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center.

Ackman fell into the consolation bracket and for the third time in the last four weeks he lost to Cadott’s Gage Burish, dropping a 9-3 decision and was eliminated from competition.

In the quarterfinal, each period started with the wrestlers in neutral position and with Lincks earning an early two-point takedown. A pair of nearfalls in the first period and another in the third period helped Lincks pad his lead as Ackman (32-9) couldn’t find a way out of his grip.

Ackman’s fortunes didn’t change against Burish. Burish beat Ackman in the Cloverbelt Conference Tournament championship match and in a second-place wrestleback at last week’s Division 3 sectional, while Ackman beat Burish for the regional championship on Feb. 13.

Burish earned a takedown near the end of the first period and had an escape and another takedown in the second period to take control of the match. Ackman earned an escape in the third period but was unable to gain control of Burish and gave up another takedown to effectively end the match.
