Marshfield boys hockey drops home opener to Tomahawk

MARSHFIELD – Tomahawk scored four straight goals over a 10-minute period spanning the first and second periods to beat Marshfield 6-3 in a nonconference boys hockey Thursday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice and Recreation Arena.

The game was the home opener for the Tigers, who fall to 2-2 on the season. Tomahawk improves to 1-2.

Tomahawk’s Luke Schoone scores in the opening minute before Marshfield tied the game on a goal by Cole Irish with 11:02 to go in the first period.

From there, the Hatchets pulled away.

A goal by Alex Ungerer with 1:22 left in the period gave Tomahawk the lead for good and it added three more goals in the first 8:18 of the second to grab a 5-1 lead. Kevin Bolder scored twice and Ungerer added another goal during the stretch for Tomahawk.

Zach Leggon scored twice, both on assists from Bobby Leggon, to cut their deficit to 5-3 with just under 5 minutes left.

Marshfield couldn’t get any closer and Nick Buitron added an empty net goal with 4 seconds left for Tomahawk.

Brad Krueger had 13 saves and Austin Pickhard had four in goal for Marshfield.

The Tigers play a nonconference game at Chequamegon on Saturday at 1 p.m.
