Austin Hawkins pours in 27 as Auburndale boys basketball whips Northland Lutheran

AUBURNDALE – Austin Hawkins made 13 of 16 shots from the field and poured in 27 points to lead the Auburndale boys basketball team to a 63-31 whitewashing of Northland Lutheran in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Friday night at Auburndale High School.

The game was the Marawood South opener for both teams. Auburndale improves to 2-0 overall, while Northland Lutheran drops to 1-2.

Auburndale shot 26 of 48 from the field (57 percent) behind Hawkins’ second strong performance of the season. The 6-foot-5 senior had 32 points in the Apaches’ season-opening win on Nekoosa last week.

Isaac Castellano added 10 points, five assists and five steals, and Ben Bolder had 10 points and eight rebounds for Auburndale.

Auburndale led 25-18 at halftime, then blew the game open with a 20-9 advantage in the third quarter.

Northland Lutheran was just 14 of 36 shooting and was led by Curtis Engelbrecht’s nine points.
