Spencer girls basketball rolls past Granton in home opener

SPENCER – Tara Matter scored 18 points and Macie Weber had 12 rebounds as the Spencer girls basketball team rolled to a 44-20 win over Granton in its home opener Friday night at Spencer High School.

Spencer improves to 1-1 overall and in the Cloverbelt East, while Granton falls to 0-3 and 0-2 in conference.

Matter made nine of 13 shots from the field and also added five rebounds and four steals for the Rockets. Sydney Kind added six points and four rebounds for Spencer.

Spencer outscored Granton 11-4 in both the first and second quarters to take a commanding 22-8 lead at halftime. The Rockets then poured it on with a 14-5 third-quarter run.

Spencer hosts Rib Lake in a nonconference game on Tuesday.
