Hot start lifts Pittsville past Stratford boys basketball

STRATFORD – Pittsville outscored Stratford 29-12 in the first half and went on to a 48-37 win over the Tigers in the Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball opener for both teams on Friday night at Stratford High School.

The loss is the Tigers’ first of the season after starting 3-0. Pittsville moves to 2-2 overall.

Stratford shot just 14 of 46 from the field in the loss.

Chase Griepentrog had 10 points, nine coming on three 3-pointers, and Nolan Bargender had eight points and eight rebounds for the Tigers.

Pittsville jumped out to a 16-6 lead after the first quarter and led 29-12 at halftime.

Brad Wesely had 16 points, Sawyer Ladick had 13 points and Trail Pierce had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers.

Stratford plays at undefeated Marathon on Tuesday.
