Austin Hawkins scores 29, leads Auburndale boys basketball team to win over Mosinee

AUBURNDALE – Austin Hawkins scored 21 of his game-high 29 points in the first half as the Auburndale boys basketball team remained undefeated with a 59-42 win over Mosinee in the first round of the Auburndale Boys Basketball Tournament on Friday night.

Hawkins poured in 14 points in the first quarter as the Apaches outscored Mosinee 21-7 in the first quarter and maintained the lead the rest of the way.

Auburndale improves to 8-0 and will play Waupaca in the tournament championship game at 8 p.m. Saturday. Waupaca topped Royall 52-45 in the first game of the tournament on Friday.

Hawkins made 12 of 20 shots from the field, 5 of 6 from the free-throw line and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds for Auburndale.

Blake Anderson added 12 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Isaac Castellano had 10 assists for the Apaches.
