Marshfield fourth at 2013 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Swim Meet

STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield boys swim team had five top-six finishes and finished fourth among the five teams at the 2013 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Swim Meet on Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Stevens Point won its second straight WVC meet title, scoring 434 points and accounting for six of the event titles. Wausau East won the other five events and finished second with 356 points. Marshfield was fourth with 172.

Zach Korth had Marshfield’s top finish, taking fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.25.

Two Tigers relays took fifth – the 200 medley relay team of Denver Anderson, Korth, Evan Schneider and Matt Brown finished in 1:54.87, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Brown, Jack Gellerman, Anderson and Schneider swam in 3:48.03.

Schneider had a pair of sixth-place finishes for Marshfield in the 200 IM (2:24.95) and 100 freestyle (55.74).

Mitch Straub of Wausau East was the lone individual double event winner, taking first in the 200 IM (2:03.37) and 100 backstroke (55.33).

Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 sectional at Hudson on Feb. 9.
