Wausau Newman Catholic starts strong, downs Stratford girls basketball

STRATFORD – Wausau Newman Catholic jumped out to a huge lead in the first half and cruised to a 68-48 win over Stratford in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Thursday at Stratford High School.

The Cardinals outscored Stratford 41-25 in the first half and were never threatened.

Chole Chapman made 6 of 7 shots from the field and scored a game-high 20 points for Wausau Newman (9-6, 5-3 Marawood South). She added nine rebounds.

Brooke Schultze had 17 points and nine rebounds, and Hannah Schmitt had 14 points and nine rebounds for Stratford (8-7, 2-7 Marawood South).

Stratford hosts undefeated Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Tuesday.
