Stratford girls second, boys fourth at Tomahawk Indoor Track Invitational at UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE – The Stratford girls won three events and finished second at the 2013 Tomahawk Indoor Track Invitational on Friday at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Nadia King won the 1,600 meters in a flat 6 minutes; Johnelle Miner won the 800 in 2:43.63; and the Tigers’ 1,600 relay team also won in 4:36.86 as Stratford finished with 85.75 points. Tomahawk won the girls team title with 127.5 points.

Stratford had five other top-four finishes, including a pair from Brooke Schultze and Abby Bender. Schultze took second in the high jump (4-10) and fourth in the 55 meters (8.03 seconds). Bender was second in the 200 (29.25) and third in the high jump (4-10). Lexi Schneider had Stratford’s other top-four finish, taking third in the shot put (31-0).

The Stratford boys had a pair of titles and six top-four finishes in all to take fourth in the team standings with 72 points. Medford (115.5) edged Black River Falls (114.5) for the boys team title.

The Tigers 800 relay team won in 1:43.93 and Eli Temanson took first in the 200 (24.22) for Stratford.

Temanson also was second in the high jump (19-6), as was Jacob Zuelke in the 1,600 (4:54.59).

Also earning high finishes for Stratford was the 1,600 relay team (third in 3:55.84) and Mark Wenzel (fourth in the 3,200, 12:07.11).

The Stratford boys will compete in the Marshfield Indoor Invitational on Tuesday, and both the boys and girls teams return to action at the Cashton Indoor Invite at UW-La Crosse on March 23.
