MARSHFIELD – Marshfield junior Daulton Varsho smacked two home runs, including a grand slam in a mad comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Tigers came up short, losing 14-12 to Merrill in a Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball game Tuesday at Reeths Field.

Marshfield trailed 14-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh before rallying. Varsho capped the seven-run inning with his second homer to make it 14-12. Bo Howard then reached on an error before Jeron Hiller lined out to right field to end the game.

Howard added two doubles, Aaron Schwecke had a single and a double, and Jared Keif had two hits for Marshfield.

Marshfield (2-5, 0-2 Wisconsin Valley Conference) will play at Merrill on Wednesday after the second game of the scheduled doubleheader on Tuesday was postponed.
