MARSHFIELD – Stevens Point took advantage of five Marshfield errors to score 10 unearned runs and knock off the Tigers 12-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference softball game Thursday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

The Panthers scored in each of the first four innings, opening up a 10-0 lead before Marshfield scored a run in the bottom of the fourth. Jessi Lyon singled and scored on a double by Caitlin Kozik for the Tigers’ lone run.

Stevens Point (21-4, 11-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) wrapped up the game with two runs in the sixth, winning via the 10-run rule. The Panthers also clinched the conference title with the victory.

Megan Roth was 3-for-3, Brianna Fluguar had a single and a double, and Taylor Smola hit a home run to lead Stevens Point.

“We had too many errors in the wrong spots and they took advantage,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said.

Marshfield (1-19, 1-9 WVC) wraps up its regular-season schedule with a doubleheader at Wausau East on Friday.
